Aloha Oahu! What to Do When You Visit!
Are you sick of the drab cold of winter? Would you like to go somewhere warm and sunny? Why not visit Oahu? Oahu is the third largest island in Hawaii, and the most populous. 75% of the state’s population calls Oahu home. There are many different things to do on Oahu, from the active to the educational.
One of the most popular attractions on Oahu is the Dole Plantation, which attracts over one million visitors every year. While the Dole Plantation has many fun activities for the whole family, they also pride themselves on educating visitors and local Hawaiians about the state’s unique agriculture. While at the Dole Plantation, you can take the Dole Plantation Tour, ride the Pineapple Express, and get lost in the Pineapple Garden Maze.
When you are done exploring the Dole Plantation, you can get a taste of history and visit Pearl Harbor. The attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 was the turning point that brought the United States into World War II.
While there, stop at the 184 foot long memorial of the U.S.S. Arizona. Spanning the midsection of the battleship, there are three sections of the memorial: the entry room, a central area designed for ceremonies called the assembly room, and the shrine room. Engraved on the marble wall in the shrine room are the names of everyone killed on the U.S.S. Arizona.
Aside from the historical attractions, you can also take guided tours around the island of Oahu, and take in the beautiful sights that the island has to offer. If you like animals, stop in and visit the Honolulu Zoo and the Waikiki Aquarium. More into nature? Check out Heeia and Kahana State Parks. No matter who you are, there is something to do on Oahu.
